VM becomes unresponsive frequently

Hi,

VM freezes and jobs set up using Task Scheduler do not run nor can we RDP into the VM. We have to force restart and then it works for few hours and then repeats the same symptoms.

There is nothing in logs that says VM has an issue.

Please advise

Shiva

    Hello @SK,

The VM appears to freeze in a state where Task Scheduler jobs stop executing, RDP becomes inaccessible, and only a forced restart temporarily resolves the issue.

This behavior could be caused by resource exhaustion—such as CPU, memory, or disk I/O peaking—or issues with the underlying storage, including a full disk, which can lead to the VM becoming unresponsive.

Resizing the VM to a higher SKU may help mitigate the issue. Please let us know if you’ve tried resizing the VM or plan to do so.

Please share the error messages and screenshots of the issue.

If you have any further questions, feel free to reach out.

    Hi Shiva,

    • What size VM is this? You can check in Azure portal by navigating to the VM and looking on Overview blade.
    • Please RDP to your VM, open Task Manager, click Memory tab on left. Please post screenshot.
    • What operating system is running in the VM?
    • Has this VM been running fine for months and then this issue started, or did you just recently create it and it has always had this issue, or something else?

    Thanks.
